We have been trying to figure out if Landon is going to be a pacifier kid, a finger sucker, or neither. He has never been too crazy about the pacifier, but he always takes it when he is going to sleep. When he has been awake lately, if he is tired, he has started popping either his thumb or his fingers in his mouth.
Does this pose look familiar?
Landon, May 2011 - 3 1/2 months
Miley, January 2009 - 6 1/2 months
It will be interesting to see what he prefers! After having one finger sucker, we really wouldn't mind having another. Miley has always been a great self soother, and you never have to worry about losing a pacifier, or having one (or more!) with you wherever you go. However, we know it is much easier to take away a pacifier (in theory, since we have never ACTUALLY done it).
Either way, as long as the little guy finds something that comforts him and makes him happy, we are happy.

Honestly this may be totally selfish of me but I always wished Jack would have used a pacifer or finger to soothe himself. Instead he required us to rock him or a bottle..which took me or Cameron (= less sleep!) Plus, now that Miley's older I can't remember the last time I saw her with her fingers in her mouth. It's only annoying when the toddler is 3 or 4 and still walking around with it in their mouth ALL time time. I get nap time (or when they get tired in general) and bed time but during regular daytime hours when they are playing it's just wierd to me to see a toddler have to take a thumb or finger out of their mouth to communicate something in a formed sentence... That probably sounds super judgemental but luckily you haven't had that problem with Miley, and hopefully Landon will be the same way!
Finger suckers RULE!! I'm LOVING having my first thumbsucker ever. He is hands down the best sleeper of all my kids and I just love that we don't have to deal with scrambling for binkies all the time. Teya was so picky about the brand of binky she would suck, they only sold them at Target and I totally remember dealing with an epic meltdown one night because we lost her other binkies and Target was closed! I was ready to tear my hair out! Anyway, finger sucking is awesome and totally adorable! worst case scenario is he'll need braces but everyone get braces these days so no biggie ; )
That is so funny that they both have that same pose! Must be in the genes? I haven't had finger suckers or pacifier kids. Which I guess is good so there is no weaning at all, but sometimes I wished they would take a pacifer and not me! Skylar chomps on her fingers all the time but she doesn't do it for soothing. She just always has something in her mouth she is chewing on. So I don't think she will be a finger sucker.
Cute pics! Landon is getting so big!
Coming from a mom of two pacifier babies, I actually think that a finger sucker would be easier! I know that you can take a pacifier away, but you have no idea how hard that is when your kid is so attached to it (the reason I haven't been able to do it yet!). No one likes to be the bad guy! At least people won't judge you or look at you like a bad parent if your kid is still sucking their finger when they are 2 or 3, whereas if your kid still has a pacifier, people will totally judge you (just like everything else, right?)! Really, the easiest thing would just be if our babies just needed neither, in my opinion!
I love the pictures of your two kids doing the exact same finger sucker pose. So funny (and cute, of course). They must get the finger sucking gene from their momma (which is funny, because I was a pacifier baby and now so are my kids)!
Looks like you passed on that trait to your kids, Wendy! Of course, you were also Mom's easiest baby so there might be a correlation:)
