DIY Backsplash

It has taken me FOR-EVER to post this, and I am not sure why.  For some reason, life has seemed to get in the way of me blogging much lately.  I am OK with this (you know, the life-taking-priority-over-the-blog thing).  However, I am trying to keep up with this because I know I will regret it if I don't!

Anyway, I few weeks ago Cameron and I (OK, mostly Cameron!) tackled another DIY project in our home - a tile backsplash in our kitchen.

This was a relatively easy project to do ourselves.  It did take a little longer than I thought (mostly because we had to work on it after kids went to bed at night...making for a few VERY late nights), and was very messy, but we are so pleased with the end result!

Here is a before picture of the wall by our stove.

We started off by using mastic to stick our tile pieces to the wall.  The most time consuming part of this, obviously, was trimming all the little pieces to fit around outlets and at the edges of the walls.

After a couple nights of that, we moved on to grouting.  This was VERY messy, but fortunately went pretty quick.

After getting the grout cleaned up, we put a sealer on it, and caulked around the edges.  I love it!  It made such a huge difference!

Now we have been scratching our heads trying to think of what our next project will be.  I am sure it won't be long until we are starting something else!

The backsplash looks beautiful! Now you guys can come do one for us, since you are pretty much professionals at it by now, right? And you are preaching to the choir on the whole life taking over blogging thing. I am having some serious anxiety over how behind I am and how many important thing I should be recording right now. I hope to play catch up now that one crazy part of my life came to a close yesterday!
