Laramie Trip - Part 1

For the past couple of weeks, we went back home to Laramie, Wyoming for a Polson family reunion of sorts. It wasn't anything formal, but it was the first time my whole family has been together since my sister got married in June of 2007. AND there have been three new babies born since then (which is kind of a big deal, since that doubled that amount of grandkids for my parents!), so it was fun to get to see everybody all together again.

Cameron, Miley and I drove the 950 miles from Maple Grove to Laramie. Kind of crazy if you ask me, but whatever. Anyway, we left on June 25th after Cameron took off from work a little early (at about 4:00 pm) and planned to drive the whole way that night, with the hopes that Miley would sleep the whole time. Well, the trip didn't go exactly as planned. We got stuck in Minneapolis traffic for about an hour to start things off. Then, Miley didn't end up falling asleep till about 10:00 (and this is a girl who is usually asleep at 7:00 or 7:30). That is pretty much how the rest of the trip went for her sleeping-wise. I think she ended up only getting about 5 hours of sleep the whole time, so our great idea wasn't so great after all.

Anyway, we are trucking along making pretty good time, then we hit the most ridiculous rainstorm EVER in Nebraska. We were driving INTO the thing, and it lasted about 3 hours...it was raining so hard that we were having to go about 50 mph at times. So anyway, we thought we would get to Laramie at about 4:00 in the morning, but we ended up rolling in at about 5:30.

On top of all of this, Miley had just gotten her 1-year shots two days before leaving and got a fever the day we left that lasted about 3 or 4 days. Bummer. She ended up being kind of crabby for the majority of the trip, and this was probably part of the reason.

We got there on my birthday, so we got to celebrate my birthday with everyone who was there, which was fun! I don't have any pictures from that on my camera, so hopefully I can snag some from my mom or sister one of these days. :) (I stole some pictures off of my sister's blog, so here are some of the birthday celebration!).

Miley and Bode were very entertained by the balloons Chili's gave them, which provided a lot of entertainment for all of us adults as well!!

Cameron doesn't understand us Polsons very well apparently, and therefore doesn't know that we NEVER have people sing to us on our birthdays in restaurants. He was busted...oh well...at least I got a free chocolate shake out of the deal!!

For the first few days, only one of my sisters, Gelsey, and her family were there. I apologize in advance, because I always take a LOT less pictures than I intend to on trips, so I don't have a lot, and I may be pulling some off of my sister's blogs when they put them up. :) We had a relaxing few days, and had fun letting our two kids, who are only 5 weeks, play together. I got a few pictures of them swimming together, but with the combination of my picture-taking-lameness, and Miley being a little cranky, these are the only pictures I have from the first few days.

Anyway, I will be adding more about the trip in the next few days, but I figured I better break it up into parts so it wasn't one long post...so until next time... :)

PS...I got some MORE pictures from my sister's blog again, so I am adding them here at the bottom because they are just too cute!

UGH! That car trip sounds awful! We've never had good luck getting Teya to sleep in the car. When we drive at night she usually stays up really late kind of like Miley did and then only sleeps for a few hours. You guys are troopers for doing that. Vacations are so fun but also hard on kids schedules. Seems like my kids always get sick and run on fumes because they won't sleep in foreign places. Anyway, glad you got to see all your family though, especially since you guys hadn't seen each other since '07! Cute pool pics too : )

Well, I am glad that you guys had a better trip home. Is Miley feeling better/recovering/getting back on her schedule? I am excited to see her (and you and Cam) in September when she is more in her element! We miss you guys!

Yikes! It's no fun to drive in heavy rain, and on top of that you had a sick kid! You're a trooper! I wish I could have been there for your birthday. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun and you look fabulous in those pictures. And the all the pictures of Bode and Miley are cute. They're going to have a lot of fun memories together!
